Rapid DNA

Rapid DNA, or "Rapid DNA Analysis," describes the fully automated (hands free) process of developing a CODIS Core STR profile from a reference sample buccal swab. The "swab in – profile out" process consists of automated extraction, amplification, separation, detection and allele calling without human intervention. At this time, Rapid DNA instruments are only for use in an accredited forensic DNA laboratory that follows published FBI Quality Assurance Standards for DNA testing. When considering the purchase of forensic DNA equipment and supplies we recommend contact with your state or local CODIS administrator. For additional information regarding Rapid DNA technology, please see the FBI Laboratory Division’s Rapid DNA Analysis page.
